Paper Swords explores a current group of artists who have been working primarily on paper, a medium that has been one of the main focuses of Brooklyn, NY’s Cinders Gallery. With a more back to basics DIY approach, these artists are part of a generation that has embraced simple tools such as pencil, pen, paint, and collage as well as influences ranging from comics, popular culture, punk rock, and psychedelia. The artwork is a mix of vibrant colors, humor and  playfulness that allow for a child-like wonder to co-exist with a critical look inward at the human condition.

Cinders Gallery is an artist-run space that has existed in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn for 3 years. Their mission has been to create a friendly atmosphere to show art and help create Brooklyn’s burgeoning alternative to New York’s more established Art scene.
